    Hi Everyone,

I searched the site and saw a video clip of Lainey saying she doesn’t recommend ART during pregnancy, while also saying it would be okay to use it just to process physical sensations during pregnancy. I was wondering if anyone had used it for this, and if they had any concerns about doing it during pregnancy? I have a highly anxious pregnant client and would love to give her a chance at some peace during this major life change! Thank you in advance.

Hi there! This is my area of specialty, and I have used ART with several pregnant clients (I am presenting on reproductive mental health at the conference!). I will not do it during pregnancy during the first trimester, just because the risk of loss is high inherently. If there are any medical concerns, I request that they speak with their physician/OB/CNM, and also offer to consult, if desired. With what we know about trauma, and the risk of untreated mental health during the perinatal period, there are risks of NOT doing something. It’s a benefits vs risk discussion, and if a client is hesitant, we don’t do it. It has been so wonderful to offer these clients relief, and the ability to enjoy their pregnancy!

Thank you for sharing your experience Crystal – that’s very helpful! I will see my pregnant client soon, and she will be late in her second trimester by then, so hope it will give her a sense of feeling peaceful and less worried.
